- The opposition alliance leaders have threatened to swear in Raila as president following the October 26 election
- This threat was dependent on whether the IEBC will declare Uhuru president following the repeat election
- NASA is adamant in calling for a fresh election in 90 days
Leaders from the National Super Alliance threatened to swear in Raila Odinga as president of Kenya following the October 26 repeat presidential election.
Speaking in Athi River town in Mavoko on Saturday, October 28, the opposition leaders maintained that Raila is the people's president and that the opposition does not recognize either President Uhuru Kenyatta as leader of the country or the October 26 election.
“From Monday, October 30, this country will proceed in a direction Uhuru Kenyatta will not understand. This is not a joke because if Baba (Raila) says fire, we fire. If Uhuru uses the results from the October 26 election to boast that he is the president, we as NASA will use the results from the August 8 election because if the servers are opened, it was Raila who won the presidential election. They must keep this sham election very far from us,” said Siaya Senator James Orengo on KTN News.
Orengo went on to say that neither Kenyans nor NASA recognize Uhuru as President.
“It is our decision that Uhuru cannot use the October 26 election to be sworn in because that will be an act of treason. The executive authority of Kenya is with the people. The constitution says you have the sovereignty, not Uhuru,
“Raila Odinga fought with the late Jomo Kenyatta until his death, Moi went home after locking up Raila, Kibaki joked with Raila and he went home, Uhuru Kenyatta will go home and Raila Odinga will come to be the President of Kenya,” added Orengo.
Former Machakos senator Johnson Muthama also echoed Orengo’s sentiments.
“This is the notice to Uhuru. He will vote for himself, he will swear yourself in, he will run and do everything but Kenyans have decided he will not be their leader," said Muthama.
The opposition brigade is adamant on a fresh election being held within 90 days after branding the October poll a sham and waste of resources.
Orengo, Muthama and former Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale were in Athi River to visit with victims of shootings following running battles between residents and the police over the October election.
According to prior TUKO.co.ke reports, Raila Odinga withdrew his candidature from the repeat election, saying the outcome had already been predetermined.
The opposition said that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission could not hold a credible election, and the same was confirmed by IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati and former commissioner Roslyne Akombe.
In the October 26 election, Uhuru led the race by a huge margin, garnering millions of votes as Raila came in a distant second after IEBC opted to leave his name on the ballot paper.
The opposition maintains that Raila won the August 8 election going by results from their parallel tallying center. IEBC, however, declared Uhuru, the winner.
Raila successfully petitioned against the presidential election results and won, and the judges ordered the repeat election.
